Hearing Tests in Utah

Now a hearing test involves at least seven screenings looking at different aspects of hearing. You should know that there is a difference between a hearing screening and a hearing test. A hearing screening is usually performed for newborn babies and infants with the purpose to determine a basic physiological problem. It is important to know that if your baby fails the screening the first time, it does not mean that the baby has a hearing problem. A second screening is often performed to confirm the findings, and you may be referred to an audiologist who can perform a full hearing evaluation. A hearing test can involve a self-test for hearing loss, an audiologic (hearing) evaluation by a specialist, various types of tests for children and adults that produce an audiogram showing a different configuration (one or both ears) and degree (hearing loss range: normal, slight, mild, moderate, severe, profound) of hearing loss. A hearing test is not the same thing as a hearing evaluation, where an audiologist goes through your case history, perform a physical checkup of the ear canals to see if you require a doctor visit, and then conduct a series of hearing tests assessing if there is in fact a hearing loss; the cause of it; and the best treatment options.
